Fort Hancock is a former United States Army fort located in Middletown Township in Monmouth County, along the Atlantic coast of eastern New Jersey in the United States. The base played an important part in the defense of North America and played a role in the History of New Jersey. It is located in the Sandy Hook beach.

In 1893, Fort Hancock became the first place to have the nation's first steam-lift gun battery. It also was important for the defense of the vital New York Harbor throughout World War II, trying to prevent the entrance of German submarines into the harbor.

The historic fort is now managed as part of the Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. Gateway NRA is part of the National Park System.

On the 23rd of Sep Don and Genie Wood went to cold war day at Sandy Hook (Ft Hancock) to see the new Hercules Missle they have there now and we also made a side visit to Mt Mitchill in Atlantic Highlands to see the 9/11 memorial built to honor the local folks who were killed there. Its a gorgeous site to see (The Eagle) and well worth a trip there for us local folks. The site also overlooks sandy hook bay and you can see the New York skyline as well.  Don was stationed there while serving in the Army.  He provided these pictures.
